Notes from James

WEEKLY LETTER
ISSUE #27 · Oct 18

Hey {{first_name}}

I love when I read about a topic and there are conflicting opinions that show up in the top results.

This happened this week when I researched Preemptive Self-Disclosure (Day 419).

The reason I like when this happens is because then I get to read both conflicting opinions and decide which makes more sense to me.

The skill in this practice is to be able to read both sides with an open-mind and to be able to decide which is more logical from a point of fairness.

I think that this is a skill that has been lost in recent years.

We gravitate to the most extreme things we hear on the internet without hearing the other side to decide which makes more sense.

To make matters worse, most of the time the other side is never published.

In the case of Preemptive Self-Disclosure, my conclusion is that this is simple a tool that can be used for negative or positive.

A tool is never inherently negative or positive, it always depends on how it is used.

I feel the same way about our modern technology and Artificial Intelligence (outside of the adverse effects that it has on nature).

From James
This past week I practiced my Spanish a lot.

I made it a main focus of mine to try and speak as much Spanish as I can in the past week.

Since I travel alone, this has been most often when ordering food, but I’m doing my best.

When the opportunity arrives for me to speak or read Spanish I am jumping at it, even if I am offered an experience in English.

It’s the best way to grow, and I want to be fluent in Spanish one day.

Another highlight of the last week is that I visited Chichen Itza.

When I started traveling full time at the beginning of this year, I came up with the goal of seeing the 7 wonders of the world.

Chichen Itza is my first of 7!

Very cool to get to experience such an impressive ancient artifact.

Not only did the site have religious purpose but it was also used as a calendar.

The architecture, mathematics, astronomy, and size of the ruins are very impressive.

See you next week!
