WEEKLY LETTER
ISSUE #1 · APR 19

Hey {{first_name}}

My goal of this week’s newsletter is to both, share what I have been thinking, but also to get you to think along with me. If this email makes you think, send me a reply about what you are thinking about. I would love to have a dialogue with all of you.

Otherwise, I could just write about this in a journal.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

We think we invented railways to get from London to Manchester or New York to Philadelphia, we didn’t. We invented them as places to think. Because in a half empty carriage what better place than to get to know not the destination but yourself.”

- Alain de Botton

How the Placebo Effect is Threatening the Drug Industry
In this weeks episode of Pull the Thread I discovered the power of the placebo effect. My conclusion is this: the placebo effect is a real treatment, it can create positive medical outcomes, and it’s the drug industry’s worst nightmare.

A very interesting topic. The goal of the medical industry is to heal people, right? Then why not start with the treatment that doesn’t have any negative side effects?

From James
The best part about writing in a newsletter is that I can’t get censored! If you are subscribed to this email list, then you get to read what I write no matter what I say. That’s a very important message this week after I made the placebo video that attacks a vulnerability of the drug industry.

Over the past 246 days of posting I have been censored on different platforms on different topics such as Elon Musk, Ozempic, Looksmaxxing, and now; The Placebo Effect.

It’s frustrating to put work into researching for a video, recording, and editing, only for the video to not reach your audience because the topic doesn’t align with the owner of the platform. With new AI algorithms in place, it is easier than ever to censor a video because a human is no longer doing the censoring, an AI agent is. This means that censoring happens faster, and with less accuracy then if a human was doing it.

In my experience, every video that you post reaches a bare minimum number of viewers so that the platform can determine if people like your video and if they want to show the video to more people. In my experience of censorship, the video is no longer shown to the bare minimum of people. The algorithms that run the top social media platforms are able to determine if your video should be shared with the platform before any human sees the video.

Something to be aware of when you are scrolling.
