Notes from James
WEEKLY LETTER
ISSUE #13 · July 12
Hey {{first_name}}
I am quite curious about why humans think the way that we do.
One thing that I think about the most is open mindedness.
To me, open mindedness is the ability to listen to a new idea (especially if it contradicts something you have learned previously), and to determine for yourself if you agree with the new idea.
I have found that we get attached to ideas that we have learned in the past because we learned them in the past and not necessarily because we have thought about the idea for ourselves.
Some people I have encountered on the internet even get offended or angry if they hear about something that is different than they have learned simply because it does not agree with what they were taught.
In my opinion, this has nothing to do with the person who taught you the knowledge that you hold dear, it just has to do with what you hold as the truth.
It can be hard to accept a new truth that contradicts an old one, but to me, that is one of the greatest joys of living.
Having your own opinions that you stand up for because you have thought about them, not because someone else told you to believe them.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“True wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves, and the world around us.”

From James
This past week I went to a Noah Kahan concert at Fenway Park.
It was unbelievable! A core experience I will never forget.
I had a moment during the concert when the screens behind the stage were showing panning shots of the crowd, and I thought to myself that maybe the world is healing.
All 20,000+ people in attendance were focussed on only one thing, the present moment.
What a gift to be a part of.
Especially, in a world with constantly distracted attention.
